While we’re here at Wondercon this weekend, we also wanted to stay up to date with the latest geek headlines. If you’re heading to the convention, be sure to find us this weekend at Booth 1909!
For now, here’s our latest recap of everything related to nerd and entertainment news. We've got updates on Attack on Titan, Game of Thrones, and even a new Batgirl movie in the works.
6. Attack on Titan Season 2 is no joke
The long awaited season two of Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) is slated to air this Saturday, April 1st—but this is no April Fool’s joke! After many months of anticipation, fans were given a closer look at what’s to come with an official promotional video, including a talking titan. Say what!? Director Tetsuro Araki has returned as chief director for season two, with Masashi Koizuka taking the helm as the main director. The main cast will be reprising their roles and many other staff members are also returning for season two. Since Attack on Titan was released in 2009, author Hajime Isayama’s hit manga series has spawned several additional spin-off manga, live-action films, and a spin-off television series. Get your Survey Corps gear ready in time to take on some titans!
5. Legion Season 2 confirmed
After a mind-boggling season finale, Legion’s series creator Noah Hawley has given fans a glimpse at what’s next. Played by the titular Dan Stevens, the Marvel series focuses on the X-Men character David Haller and also stars Aubrey Plaza as Lenny/The Shadow King and Rachel Keller as his girlfriend, Syd. The FX show recently wrapped its first season, and creator Noah Hawley gave fans a teaser halfway through the end credits. "In terms of putting it as a post-credits sequence, I think there's a proud tradition of that on the Marvel features side," Noah Hawley said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "It's the beginning of another thought. I wanted to give people the end song and the feeling of watching the credits, to let them absorb the complete story they just watched. And then I wanted to tease them as to what chapter two is going to be."
Marvel also announced a new look at another television project in the works, revealing a brand new logo for the upcoming series, Inhumans. The show is currently being filmed in Oahu, Hawai’i, with a release date of September 1st in IMAX theaters. Inhumans will air on ABC a few weeks after its exclusive IMAX release.
4. StarCraft Remastered announced
Earlier this week, StarCraft announced major news for gamers, including a StarCraft Remastered edition in the works. One of Blizzard Entertainment’s biggest titles, the beloved video game has captured the imagination of fans since 1998. With over a million views on the trailer announcement, it’s clear that fans are clamoring for more details regarding the upcoming remastered edition.
3. Game of Thrones Season 7 Teaser released
Today, HBO unveiled a brand new teaser for the next season of Game of Thrones. The trailer focuses on Jon Snow, Cersei Lannister, and Daenerys Targaryen in their quest for the Iron Throne. While some fans have been saddened that this season will only be seven episodes, it’s definitely exciting to hear more developments about the upcoming show.
2. Spiderman: Homecoming Trailer is officially here
On Tuesday, Marvel released an action-packed trailer for the upcoming Spiderman film. Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, the film will also star Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark, Hawai’i newcomer Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and rising starlet Zendaya as Michelle. The trailer also delved deep into showing fans a villainous Michael Keaton as The Vulture. Grab your Spiderman tshirts now, before Spiderman: Homecoming hits theaters on July 17, 2017.
1. Joss Whedon to direct Batgirl
According to Variety, director Joss Whedon will take the helm for an upcoming Batgirl film in the works. Whedon fans have long lamented the day when Firefly was pulled off the air, so this is certainly an exciting new development. While fans are reeling over the prospects, the question remains—who will be cast as Batgirl? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
