“Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world’s first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better … stronger … faster.” Fans of the hit television series, The Six Million Dollar Man, will undoubtedly remember this famous voiceover—which was originally completed by actor Richard Anderson.
According to Deadline, actor Richard Anderson has passed away at the age of 91 years old. Anderson is well-known for his role as Oscar Goldman in the television series, The Six Million Dollar Man. In the series, Anderson played alongside Steve Austin (Lee Majors) and Jaime Sommers (Lindsay Wagner).
“I met Richard in 1967 when he first guest starred on The Big Valley — we worked together on five episodes,” Actor Lee Majors said about his co-star. “In 1974, he joined me as my boss, Oscar Goldman, in The Six Million Dollar Man. Richard became a dear and loyal friend, and I have never met a man like him. I called him ‘Old Money.’ His always stylish attire, his class, calmness and knowledge never faltered in his 91 years. He loved his daughters, tennis and his work as an actor. He was still the sweet, charming man when I spoke to him a few weeks ago. I will miss you, my friend.”
In remembrance of Anderson, Wagner said, “I can’t begin to say how much I have always admired and have been grateful for the elegance and loving friendship I was blessed to have with Richard Anderson. He will be greatly missed.”
For decades, Anderson amassed a wide range of roles in movies and television, but many fans will always remember him for his role as Oscar Goldman. In the seventies, Anderson also reprised his role as Oscar Goldman for The Bionic Woman series. Also, Anderson was well-known for starring on both series at the same time, which was an uncommon occurrence.
Over the years, IMDB has listed Richard Anderson as having a total of 188 credits in both film and television. Anderson also starred in several other projects, including The Return of the Six-Million-Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman in 1987, Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman in 1989 and later, Bionic Ever After? in 1994.
Originally from Long Branch, NJ, Anderson was born on August 8, 1926. After living in New York City for ten years, his family then relocated to California. Anderson is also remembered for his service during World War II. Upon returning, Anderson decided to enroll at the Actors Laboratory in Los Angeles. Today, Anderson is survived by his three daughters, Ashley, Brooke, and Deva Anderson.
