Originally released by AMC on May 22, 2016, Preacher takes viewers on a wild ride. The series is actually an adaptation of a comic book series of the same name published by Vertigo of DC Comics. Written by Garth Ennis and created by artist Steve Dillon, the series follows the story of a preacher in Texas. Dominic Cooper plays Jesse Custer, a preacher in Annville, Texas. When Custer becomes tangled up with a supernatural creature called Genesis everything begins to change. Neither perfectly good or purely evil, the creature is a mixture of both an angel and a demon. Jesse becomes bonded to Genesis, and has a seemingly unlimited sense of power. Later, he begins to journey across the United States in order to find God. Jesse links up with his former flame Tulip O'Hare, played by Ruth Negga, and an Irish vampire named Cassidy. Actress Ruth Negga also appeared as Raina in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., while Dominic Cooper appeared in the Marvel universe as Howard Stark in Captain America: The First Avenger. Although the show is set in Texas, much of the series was filmed in New Mexico. Preacher joins the lineup of other television shows from Vertigo, including Constantine, iZombie and Lucifer.
